Why do hair follicles on the sides and back of the head continue to grow hair when you're bald on top?
Answered By Hal Quixley
Hair follicles on the sides and back of the head continue to grow because they are not affected by the Dihydrotestosterone or DHT (the one responsible for the Physical changes in men). As a result, hairs on this part of the head continue to grow at a very normal rate while the hair follicles on the top of the head are still alive, but they are not growing hairs anymore.
